No, your pet food bag and pouch are not recyclable. Hill's is striving to make these materials technically recyclable by replacing the current multi-material compound with a mono-material structure. This mono-material structure is mainly made of LDPE, an EU and worldwide accepted material in recycling streams and infrastructures.
No, these bags and pouches are not biodegradable
We traditionally use flexible plastic materials that contain a PET or an aluminum layer to ensure product durability and protection. Both dry food bags and wet food pouches today are lined with different plastic layers that have been sealed together. As a result, most material recovery facilities around Europe, Middle East, and Africa have trouble sorting and breaking down these types of materials to recycle them. The transition to a mono material structure will ensure technical feasibility for recycling. This process takes time as we do not want to compromise on the quality or safety of your pet’s food.
