Committed to sustainability
in many forms
This commitment extends beyond pets and includes People, Performance, and Planet.
At Hill’s, we are committed to producing pet foods with the highest nutritional values, palatability and dietetic results. To honor this commitment, Hill’s processing engineers and technicians have developed stringent manufacturing standards.
We believe that quality scientific technology and compassionate animal care go hand-in-hand for the improvement of pets’ healthy lives. This is why Hill’s only supports and exercises the responsible, caring and humane treatment of dogs and cats.
Helping pets find homes worldwide
At Hill’s we support the work of charities and shelters. Since 2002, Hill’s Pet Nutrition has donated over £175 million in pet food to nearly 1,000 shelters. Hill’s donations have helped over seven million pets be adopted.
Partner to the profession
Hill’s Pet Nutrition began with the caring and commitment of one veterinarian. Even today, vets remain a cornerstone of our success. In turn, Hill’s remains a leader in ensuring the future of the veterinary profession through sponsorships, educational efforts, management training programs, technical and consultation services, and a wide variety of student programs.
Hill’s people giving back
Hill’s Caring Hearts volunteer program links Hill’s employees to volunteer activities, providing a valuable service to more than 200 agencies and their service projects.
In recent years, Hill’s has helped more than 140 veterinary pet hospitals, shelters, rescue groups and other organizations worldwide to assist recovery efforts after natural disasters and animal abuse situations.
All pets cared for by Hill’s live in a loving, safe, playful, and clean environment. We use only non-invasive, humane research methods. Hill’s does not participate in studies that jeopardise the health of dogs and cats. Hill’s does not support or conduct studies that cause pain or hurt dogs or cats.
Continually validating and improving the clinical efficacy of all of our products
Every day, Hill’s researchers analyse and document the nutritional adequacy of Hill’s pet foods, conduct studies to ensure products are properly formulated for each lifestage, measure body fat and energy levels in the Hill’s Metabolism Laboratory, run taste tests to ensure high palatability, and perform nutritional studies to improve the health of companion animals.
Focus on Ingredients
We use only the highest quality meats, grains, fats and oils, and fibre sources to assure each Hill’s pet food product meets the daily dietary requirement of dogs or cats, whether healthy or disease-prone.
We also ensure that our products are exclusively made from non-GMO ingredients and do not contain artificial flavourings, colours, or excess salt.
At Hill’s, we constantly search for ways to minimize the environmental impact of product packaging. We have made great strides in innovative packaging: Hill's introduced wet pet food products in laminate pouches, giving pet owners an alternative to metal cans. In 2008 alone, this meant a savings of 78.2 metric tons of packaging material, resulting in much lighter shipping weights and lower transport volumes, thereby reducing our environmental footprint.
Hill’s is committed to remaining focused on conserving Earth’s finite resources, addressing climate change and maintaining the well-being of our planet for generations to come. These planet-related commitments cover energy use, carbon emissions, water use and waste generation. We are also committed to sustainably built and run facilities. We are making progress in each of our planet goals, and working with partners and consumers to make “Planet” a priority.
Hill’s European manufacturing plant in Hustopece, Czech Republic was awarded US EPA ENERGY STAR Challenge award for its 25.6% improvement in energy efficiency during the 2012-2013 period. Hill’s is proud to put its values into real actions, helping the planet one plant at a time.
