Hill's

At Hill’s, we strive for technological leadership in the pet food industry and invest heavily in nutritional research in order to discover the future of functional foods.

Our recent progress includes the development of tools to capitalize on nutrigenomics – the study of nutrients’ effects on gene expression. This is just one of many steps we make on a daily basis to ensure we create foods that make a real difference to the health and quality of life for pets and the people who care for them.

What is nutrigenomics?

Green Tea
It is scientifically proven that there are certain foods we can eat to help prevent the development of diseases like cancer and arthritis. The way they work is by altering how our genes send messages to our cells. For example, humans can help slow down the progression of some cancers by drinking green tea.

Similarly, there are certain foods dogs can eat to reduce the development of diseases. Hill’s Pet Nutrition has discovered that dog food made with fish oil extracts can reduce the pain associated with arthritis and slow down its progress.

How does it work?

Fish oils contain Omega-3 fatty acids, one of which has been proven to help maintain healthy joints in dogs. This particular fatty acid is called EPA and is absorbed into the joint, blocking the pain and part of the inflammation pathway. The effect is relief from discomfort and the slowing of the arthritis process.
